Information on Visa, Residence permit,
Exit and Entry and Residence

 

1. To enter China, foreign students should hold an ordinary passport with either an X visa or an F visa. Students holding a non-student visa will need to convert it to a student visa after his/her registration in the host Institute.

2. Foreign students holding an X visa must, within 30 days of his / her arrival in China, apply for a Foreigner Residence Permit by presenting his / her valid identification and documents. They should first pass a health examination or have his / her Physical Examination Record reexamined and verified by the Beijing Municipal Health Quarantine Bureau (20 Hepingli Beijie, Dongcheng District, Beijing. Tel:64274240-Ext. 506) before they can apply for a Beijing Residence Permit.

Foreign students who choose to be transferred to UIBE from other province or schools in China should first go through the departure procedures with the local Police Department and then apply for alternation of his/her Residence Permit within 10 days of arrival to UIBE if he/she already has a Residence Permit.

3. Students wishing to leave and re-enter China during their studies (including taking trips to Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) must apply for a re-entry visa at the Aliens' Exit & Entry Administration Office of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau (No.2 Andingmennei Dongdajie,Dongcheng District, Beijing) at least 7 days before departure by presenting his/her valid identification and documents, plus a certificate issued by the Foreign Student Affairs Office.

Students must return to UIBE within the validity period indicated on the re-entry visa.

4. Foreign student wishing to visit or travel to regions not open to foreigners should present valid documents or invitation issued by the hosting individual or organization to apply for an Alien Travel Certificate issued by the Aliens' Exit & Entry Administration Office, which must be kept together with your personal passport.

5. Students wishing to extend their residence Permit or visa must apply at the Aliens' Exit & Entry Administration Office Of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau at least 7 days before the expiration date by presenting his/her valid identification and documents, plus a certificate issued by the Foreign Student Affairs Office.

If the expiration date is sometime during the school's vacation, the student who needs to undergo any of the aforesaid procedures should contact the Foreign Student Affairs Office well in advance in case of the office closing.

6. Foreign students are advised to be aware of the expiration date on the residence permit and visa. Failing to do so, he/she will be fully responsible for the consequences caused by his/her neglect.

Depending on the seriousness of the case, discipline or even expulsion will be inflicted.

7. Foreign students applying for a new passport should report to the Foreign Student Affairs Office beforehand. Upon receiving the new passport, he/she must go to the Foreign Student Affairs Office and also the Aliens' Exit & Entry Administration Office of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau for the registration of the corresponding changes In the Residence Permit.

8. In case of loss or damage of the Residence Permit, the student must report it immediately to both the Foreign Student Affairs Office and the Aliens' Exit & Entry Administration Office of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau and apply for a new residence permit.

In case of losing the passport, the student must report it immediately to both the Foreign Student Affairs Office and the Aliens' Exit & Entry Administration Office of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau and apply for a new passport at the Embassy or Consulate-General of his/her home country and then apply for a new visa at the Aliens' Exit & Entry Administration Office of the Beijing Municipal Public Secunty Bureau.

9. When leaving the campus, foreign students are required to carry their passport and Residence Permit with them for inspection.

10. Expenses Incurred in the application of the Residence Permit, visa and the extension of the aforesaid documents will be borne by the students themselves.

11. University rules do not permit relative(s) of foreign students to keep their company while they are studying in UIBE. Under special circumstances, the student's relative(s) may come by holding a Traveler's visa, which may only be extended for 6 months upon each application.

12. In principle, foreign Students should live on campus in accommodations supplied by either the university or designated families. If foreign students should wish to live off-campus, they must live in residences that have been legally approved for foreigners to live in. Otherwise, their rights will not be protected by law.

If students should wish to move off campus during their study period, they have to go through the following procedures:

1) Obtain from the local police station an approval for residing temporarily at the new

    address.

2) Bring your Residence Permit to the Foreign Student Affairs Office and fill out the

    application for the change of address.

3) Bring your Passport, Residence Permit and theApplication for Change of Address to

    the Aliens' Administration Office of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau to go

    through the necessary procedures.

4) Bring all the relevant documents to the Foreign Student Affairs Office and hand in the

    "move-out" application. You can only move out after obtaining the approval. Living in

    illegal residence for foreigners, the student must bear all the consequences and legal

    responsibilities himself/herself.

13. Foreign students are not allowed to work work payment during their studies. Violation will be considered illegal working and the student shall bear all the consequences and legal responsibilities.
