Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics (Business Communication)

 

Introduction

The two-year cultivation aims to make students have solid linguistic foundation both in English and Chinese, know well of systematic business knowledge, learn the economic, social and cultural characteristics of business target-nations thoroughly and be able to compare and research international business activities and phenomenon deeply. Graduates belonging to Business Communication Orientation will be qualified to engage in practice including high-level foreign trade, international business communication, information collection and all kinds of international business work. Furthermore, they can study the major economies in business field and consult for them, which have a strong competitive power in the employment market.

Advanced Chinese; Management Theory (English); Economics (English); Intercultural Business Communication; International Business Negotiation; Research Methods and Thesis Writing; International Business Management; International Marketing (English); International Finance (English); Business Communication; Human Resource Management (English) ; Cultural Capital Research.

Our Business Communication course provisions fully embody international features, which has extraordinary practical applicability to cultivate students with solid foundation and high level of English and Chinese, improved interaction with both domestic and international business environment and excellent awareness to grasp the perfect combination of European and American commercial culture and the Chinese tradition.

Cultivation Goal

Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics major (business communication orientation) endeavors to cultivate extraordinary inter-disciplinary English and Chinese talents with solid linguistic foundation both in English and Chinese, basic business knowledge and practical operation skills.  Those qualities enable our students to keep track of the latest disciplinary development, update their knowledge structure and improve their professional skills constantly in the globalization environment. Compared with the other domestic master students learning the same major, our graduates stand in a leading-high level and obtain a certain international competitiveness.

Cultivation Characteristics

SIS adopts the tutorial system to overseas master students in the teaching process, which means that determination of the tutor is decided by two-way choice combining the students' desire and the tutor’s choice. Classroom teaching is the main mode of master students’ training. In addition to imparting professional knowledge and skills, our program attaches importance to training the students' consciousness of participation and thinking, and practical abilities of language and skills to analysis and solve problems. The two-year cultivation will also have exchange programs with some extraordinary U.S universities for students who want to study abroad to foster students' innovative consciousness, communication ability, the sense of responsibility and team spirit.

Teaching Faculty Characteristics

SIS is proud of its excellent faculty with distinguished professors, famous scholars and well-known experts who have made outstanding academic contribution in the field of business English, linguistics literature and translation. Business English teaching faculty of SIS has been rated National Business English Teaching Faculty and Beijing Excellent Business English Teaching Faculty. More than 95% of SIS teachers have study-abroad experience. In addition, approximately 20 eminent guest professors, from prestigious academic institution in China and abroad, either lecture or do research in SIS.
